When the COVID-19 pandemic swept the world, many countries quickly closed their borders to foreign visitors. However, Taiwan, an island in East Asia, has managed to keep its borders open by enforcing strict quarantine measures. As a result, as a first-time visitor to Taiwan during the pandemic, I had a unique but unforgettable experience.

Upon arrival at Taoyuan International Airport, I was immediately escorted to a government-designated hotel for a mandatory 14-day quarantine period. The hotel room was spacious and clean, but the isolation from the outside world quickly affected my mental health. The only window in the room was sealed, and I was not allowed to leave or open the door except for meal delivery.

Every day I had to report my temperature and any symptoms related to COVID-19 to the hotel staff by phone or messaging app. Meals were delivered thrice daily, and I was grateful to the hotel staff for their efforts to provide me with healthy and delicious food. However, after a few days, the monotony of being stuck in the same room started to wear me down.

Despite the difficult circumstances, I was determined to make the most of my quarantine experience. I took the opportunity to catch up on my work, read books, and communicate with my friends and family back home through video calls. I also exercised daily, doing yoga and strength training in the bedroom.

After 14 long days, my quarantine period has ended. Finally, I was allowed to check out of the hotel and start my Taiwan adventure. And what an experience!

Taiwan is a truly magical destination, with breathtaking natural landscapes, bustling cities, and rich cultural heritage. I was amazed by the friendliness of the people and the efficiency of the public transport system. I visited the iconic Taipei 101 tower, tasted delicious street food, and hiked the lush mountains of Taroko National Park.

Despite the pandemic, Taiwan has given me a truly memorable travel experience. I felt safe and cared for, thanks to the country’s strict quarantine measures and proactive approach to controlling the spread of COVID-19.

My first visit to Taiwan during the COVID-19 pandemic was challenging but ultimately rewarding. The mandatory quarantine period was difficult, but it allowed me to reflect and appreciate even more the beauty of this beautiful Asian country. I recommend this heavenly place as a travel destination to anyone looking for adventure, culture, and natural beauty.
